DNW COMPOSTING INSTRUCTIONS
What
to put in the COMPOST BIN:
Almost
any KITCHEN WASTE including FRUITS AND VEGETABLES, FISH, MEAT, CORN HUSKS, RINDS,
PAPER TOWELS, SMALL BONES, COFFEE GROUNDS, ETC.
Farm
Animal Manure is allowed (not dog waste).
You
may put waste in Certified Compostable Biodegradable Bags (never in
plastic).
What
NOT to put in the COMPOST BIN:
DOG
WASTE, LARGE BONES, ANY KIND OF PLASTIC
The
system heats to over 130 degrees for at least 3 days in a row and will kill any
weed seeds, pathogens, etc. Please put your
waste material in the bin marked “COMPOST MATERIAL HERE” and not in the bin with the metal roof marked “NOT HERE”. It is also
important that you not touch the controls, fan or temperature probes at the
west end of the bins.
